About Waiheke Island

A geographical area of 92 km2, Waiheke is only 40 minutes by ferry from Auckland, a city of 1.5 million people.

It is the most populated and the second-largest island in the Haurakli Gulf, with just over 9,000 permanent residents.  Another estimated 3,400 have second or holiday homes on the island.

In November 2015, Lonely Planet rated Waiheke Island the fifth-best region in the world to visit in 2016.

With pristine beaches, clear waters, stunning native forest and vineyards it is an idyllic getaway from city life.  Sometimes referred to as the "Hamptons" of New Zealand, Waiheke is a jewel in the Hauraki Gulf.  A permanent population of just under 10,000 people the island embraces billionaires, entrepreneurs, artists, and families.  The environment is valued and protected, with a strongly sustainable focus in many aspects of island life.  The island is visited by up to 1 million visitors per annum. In summer the population swells to 30,000 as New Zealanders flock to holiday homes for a laid back beachside retreat.  Life is relaxed, unpretentious and embraces the protection of this special environment.

Weather

This is a temperate climate, ranging from 16-26 degrees in summer, and 8-15 degrees in winter.  Prevailing winds are northerly and southwesterly.  While wind can sometimes create slight discomfort on a short part of the ferry trip, it is rare for ferries to be cancelled due to weather.  In recent years the island has experienced drought and water conservation is encouraged.

Attire

We encourage you to be comfortable and relaxed.  Casual working attire is recommended.  The Centre is temperature controlled.  However we recommend bringing layers for al fresco dining, hats for the strong NZ sun and we will provide sunscreen.  Comfortable shoes are recommended to allow you to enjoy bush trails and coastal walks, should you wish to enjoy the nearby environment during breaks and after the course.

Catering

Our chefs will provide nutritious healthy food for breakfast, lunch and we will dine out at a local restaurant on Friday night.   We can cater to all dietary requirements.  Our chef can give you a picnic basket and blanket if you'd like to have lunch under the majestic pohutukawa trees on the property.  All dietary requirements and allergies will be noted at the time of registration.
