Dr Andrea Shepperson
Dr Andrea Shepperson is one of New Zealand's best known dentists and speakers. A practising clinician for nearly 40 years in Auckland, New Zealand, she understands the hearts and minds of dentists and their problems.
Andrea is the owner of a dedicated training facility on Waiheke Island, Auckland, New Zealand. Her courses have a strong focus on clear implementation and evidence to support clinical strategies. She brings a wealth of international knowledge, networking and high level engagement with some of the leading dentists and teaching centres of the world. In addition she focuses on technology and changing global trends shaping the industry.
She is a Mentor and Alumni of the internationally renowned Kois Center in Seattle, USA, New Zealand's only Digital Smile Design KOL and Master, running New Zealand's first DSD Clinic. She is an Honorary Life Member of the NZ Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a Global Ambassador for Slow Dentistry.
She released her textbook in 2023 - Managing Tooth Wear- A Comprehensive Guide for General Practitioners. She is a contributing author to Practical Procedures In Aesthetic Dentistry, and has been involved in scientific and clinical publications, webinars and expert panels in the development of dentistry.
Dr Shepperson's motivation comes from a drive for clarity amongst the complex, future mindedness and optimism for her patients, and beauty and excellence in the things she delivers. As a young dentist, she searched for advanced education internationally from her early years, bringing a world view to her work.
Preferring the ocean and nature as a place to think, write and research dentistry, she has a knack of translating complex concepts into practical strategies for clinicians and patients. Dentists often say "Can we bottle what you say" or "Say that again please" , in patient communication she is an authentic and empathic communicator. Satisfying patient needs from all walks of life, she is a problem solver, innovator and authentic provider of care for patients from many walks of life. Start Up Success
Dr Andrea Shepperson started her own practice as a greenfield site four years after graduation, shortly after the 1987 sharemarket crash. Her success came from seeing opportunities as the dental landscape changed. Her determination, being an early adopter, access to international mentors, a best practice philosophy and a commitment to extraordinary customer service are key elements of her success.
Andrea has encountered every challenge faced by a dentist in business. She completed 3 start ups over the course of 20 years, and finally sold her practice to Lumino The Dentists in 2007. The dental landscape continues to change rapidly and her responsiveness, understanding of technology in dentistry, and workforce and consumer shifts allows her to help dentists prepare for the future.
Leading with Intent
Dr Andrea Shepperson has been in leadership roles since her early career. She has Chaired a number of organisations and been a media face of dentistry over 30 years. Her clinical reputation and commercial acumen resulted in governance positions in a number of organisations.
Andrea has a strong desire to give back to the dental community. She has had the benefit of extraordinary teachers throughout her career, and brings the importance of quality dental education, and mentorship to her younger peers.
Andrea established GO and Launch, both Best Practice training programmes for younger dentists.
